![]() ![]() Pĭisney characters stop for a picture with fairy Yui from SAO! We were right above one of the most popular places for an impromptu cosplay photo shoot (probably because of the windows and lighting), so I got lots of stalker pictures of cosplayers. Since it was upstairs, my brother and I picked a spot on the balcony that looked down on the hallway below. There was a panel with information and tips about the auditions with Bangzoom! producers and voice actors before the auditions, so we waited in line for that. There were several audition times held throughout the con, but to just get it done the first day (even though my brother went back and auditioned again because apparently you could do that). Really bad shots of really awesome cosplayīangzoom! Entertainment was holding these open auditions for the English dub of the second season of Magi, so our first day was pretty much dedicated to those. (My brother and I didn’t cosplay because we’re stupid and lazy) ![]() I mean, I would’ve happy just wandering around the front lobby, gawking at all the cosplay. The first day was pretty much just me being starstruck at the overwhelming amount of anime that surrounded me. It literally took all of 9 seconds to get our badges.Ĥ-5 hour wait was totally worth it (blurring out my last name bc I don’t want you to stalk me) Let’s not talk about my incredibly red nose and horrible burn that eventually turned into really awkward tan lines)Īnd finally, after a whole day in the sun (we went to Griffith Park and did the horseback riding tours earlier that day), an amount of standing/walking that definitely ruined my already falling apart shoes, three episodes of The Irregular at Magic High School and a multitude of passing high-fives from those in the line ahead of us, we made it inside the building. is kind of in the middle of a desert and sun happened. My brother and I resorted to watching anime on my phone and taking really awkward selfies. Unfortunately, we weren’t prepared for this kind of wait in the slightest, unlike everyone else who had brought their DSes and PSPs and manga and friends to entertain themselves. We waited in line for a good 4 or 5 hours. The line wrapped around enough to meet up with the other side and it wasn’t even the freaking front. It wrapped around the convention center all the way back around the parking garage as well. This is when we finally found the back of the line. In short, we underestimated the length of the pre-registered line (and pretty much the length of all the lines at the con) to a degree that we really shouldn’t have. And even he thought AX would be smaller that Anime Boston. Since my brother had been to Anime Boston earlier that year (his college is like a 2 hour drive from Boston), he warned me about the lines and amount of people, but like the annoying little sister I am, I didn’t listen. Now, I’d never been to an anime convention before, so I figured there would be an advantage in pre-registering and that the line wouldn’t be as bad as those who were getting badges on the spot. My brother and I had already pre-registered online, so all we had to do was present our paperwork and boom, we get a badge. Anime Expo 2014 was my very first anime convention!! It was incredible to say the least and I spent that weekend on a full-fledged anime high.Įverything started on with waiting in line for badges on Day 0. ![]()

There's no theoretical reason not to call it an eighth it's just custom, perhaps influenced by the special status given to that interval by octave equivalence. Keep in mind that the day one week after some other day was also called the octave, which is simply Latin for "eighth," and, as has been noted elsewhere, the periods of a week and two weeks are to this day called eight and fifteen days in at least some modern Romance languages.Īs an aside, I note that the only difference between numbering the intervals of the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh, on one hand, and the octave on the other, is that we use our native (Germanic) ordinals for the first set of intervals and a word derived from the Latin ordinal for the last. In his treatise Micrologus, published around 1026, he mostly refers to the interval that we now call the octave as the diapason, but it's also clear from chapter V that the term "octave" had come to its musical meaning. I'm a little hazy on the state of music theory before Guido d'Arezzo, who worked in the early 11th century, but it's pretty clear that the letter names A through G were in use before he published his system of solmization with the six syllables ut, re, mi, fa, sol, and la. What system was in use in medieval Europe when the term octave arose, and what did the term octave refer to? As shown below, it was already in use by the 11th century to denote the musical interval (although the principal name for the interval at that time seems still to have been diapason). Was the term “octave” coined after the development of early music theory? If the term octave refers to the 8 notes in a major scale, then in is placed in retrospect, and after the development of enough music theory to define diatonic scales. However in this case we require a 12 semi-tone tuning system. As the modern major scale arises from the division of an octave into 12 intervals (12 notes + an octave), and selecting a sub-set of 8 out of it. This division will give me 7 pitches + an octave, but this will sound nothing like the major eight-note scale we know today. If I want to build an 8-note system, I can divide an octave into 7 intervals using a harmonic series. My question is about the chronology of a 12 semi-tone tuning system, the use of an 8-note scale (major scale), and the introduction of the word 'octave' to refer to those 8 notes (7 notes + root). To clarify: I am not asking why an octave is called an octave (meaning eight) if we have 7 notes. When did people start using the word octave, and what does it really refer to? It seems to me that the term "octave" refers to these 8 notes within the 12 note system, and was used in retrospect after some music theory was already in the making (during definition and use of the ionian major scale -I know modes weren't defined up until much much later-).Īll answers to questions related to the name "octave" just explain the history of modern tuning systems, but I haven't yet seen an explanation of why we use the word "octave" for a 12-tone system, which was never an 8-tone system. Later on, within the roman civilization and gregorian chants, this system was still applied and a notation system invented which contained 7 note names (today A to G), probably to refer to the common (ionian) major scale. This already produced a division of an octave into 12 pitches. The (western) tuning system comes from the Pythagorean division of the octave, based on consonant frequencies, found by simple ratios. They are meant for my personal review but I have open-source my repository of personal notes as a lot of people found it useful.I have some confusion as to the use and history of the word octave in the context of music and tuning systems. I would like to give full credits to the respective authors as these are my personal python notebooks taken from deep learning courses from Andrew Ng, Data School and Udemy :) This is a simple python notebook hosted generously through Github Pages that is on my main personal notes repository on. You can use serialization, you can use images, things like that. It has very specific prompts, it has a dialog that you follow that allows it to really take advantage of label printing. Seagull BarTender Enterprise has an add-on that allows you to, again, print from your mobile device to a remote printer. Products do exist that allow more perfect printing to different label printers. ![]() So you have to do a little bit of trickery because it really wasn't designed for that. You can select some of those different settings and then it'll fill up the label a little bit more. Additionally, in the print dialog, there's some things that talk about stretching or filling. There, so, you can see this has actual document size, and this is wider. You can do things like increase the size of your document, and when you do that it goes from kind of adding margins in on the side to then being wider. You have to do some kind of trickery with it. Taking those margins out is really difficult. So that margin is because when you're printing on a document printer it wants to put the margin by default because not all printers can print edge-to-edge. So one thing you might notice that's real common with all these labels is that there's this gap at the top. So, I'll show you a bunch of labels that we printed here. So the logic in it was really designed to accommodate the needs of those kinds of printers. It was a way to print sort of PDFs from your phone to your home desktop printer, your full-size inkjet/laser printer. There's a few limitations because it was designed mostly for document printing. The bad part for label printing is that it's not quite ready. So you can see the obvious advantages of Google printing, allowing a lot of flexibility from using different devices to printing to all printers. And we'll go ahead and print that same label onto the ZQ620. Go to Cloud Print and then you just select it from that dialog. Mobile printers, like this one, which are paired over a connection again if your cell device is not on the same network as it, but you need to print to it, you can do so. You just select your home printer, that could be miles and miles away, and it'll spit out a label on that printer. So if you're on your phone and your phone is working off of your cellular network and then you need to print something to like your home office, you know you're creating product labels or something like that, you can print from your phone. So I physically have a USB connection on this printer to this tablet right here, but you can print remotely even. ![]() So the really cool thing about Cloud Print is that the printer doesn't need to be connected to that computer itself. You just select your printer from the list and you can hit "Print." It kind of replicates the Windows print dialog, but it's a little different, it's a little more simplified. So when you click Cloud Print it brings up a Chrome-specific print dialog. So in it, when you see the Cloud Print button on webpages, like this is on our POSGuys barcode generator (/barcode), we added the Cloud Print button so that if you wanted to use Cloud Print, you know, you generate the barcode on your phone, then you can click the Cloud Print, print to your desktop printer. It even should work on iOS as long as you have the correct version of Chrome. Whether it's a browser in Windows, or Chrome on your mobile device or your phone. So what is Cloud Print? Cloud Print is part of Chrome, so it's a way that Google created for you to be able to print to connected printers through any devices where you're logged in into Chrome itself. Today we're going to go over Google Cloud Print and how you enable printing from your mobile device to a desktop printer without having to directly have them paired. **Transcription:** Hi, this is Travis from. ![]() ![]() ![]() Like its console, Sony has put a lot of effort into the controller.
